Overview

Writing: there's nothing I love more. Well, obviously family and friends and so on, but I meant in terms of activities. I first became interested in writing during my first year of secondary school, aged 11. I already loved reading, so instead of paying attention to my classes, I began writing blurbs for non-existent books.

After some time, I decided to I wanted to make those books existent, and in fourth year, with some advice and encouragement from my truly wonderful English teacher, I first began properly writing and threw myself fully into the hobby, the intent being that, one day, it can be a career.

Under the other tabs you'll find specific information about my poetry and prose endeavours, projects I'm undertaking, plans I have, maybe a couple of excerpts. Who knows? I hope you enjoy what you find.

Poetry

Poetry. Despite being secondary in my interests, this is actually the first type of writing I ever did, and for the moment the type I have the most published work in. Note that 'published' doesn't mean I'm properly published. It means I published it on the internet. Get off my back. Getting published is hard.

My early poems are, frankly, rubbish, but since joining AllPoetry (link below), I gained a new love and passion for the art and have since improved a lot.

Winter's Song, Excerpt

It is winter's song that draws long your dreams in beds all white and softly set, it seems, as blustery breath lifts the falling leaves and throws them high; for autumn's loss it grieves.

AllPoetry

AllPoetry is a large poetry-sharing website and one of my favourite places on the internet. I joined the site on the 1st of October 2018 and have been active intermittently ever since.

At the moment, activity on this account is rather sporadic. Although I love poetry and this site with all my heart, I'm currently focusing much more on prose than poetry. I still come back and write a poem or two every now and then, and hopefully I can be more active again here in the future.

Prose

Prose writing, especially fantasy and science fiction, is my absolute favourite thing to do. In fact, I've done far more of it than poetry, but only a tiny amount of my work can actually be found anywhere.

Though I've finished drafts for both a novel and a novella, written more first chapters than I care to admit, and even locally host a MediaWiki installation to organise my information, I've only once got to a point where I'm happy to publish anything. That thing is an in-progress short story collection, Rooms of the Desolate (see below).

With that in mind, I'm currently working on a few longer, thus-unpublished projects. Infinity's Omega is the novella I mentioned, a piece of science fiction set towards the end of the universe. I've also started a low fantasy steampunk novel called The Iron City, which I began writing for NaNoWriMo 2021 and continued for NaNoWriMo 2022 (both of which I completed!).

Rooms of the Desolate

Rooms of the Desolate is an ongoing collection of short stories written to guide the reader through the many rooms and mysteries of the bleak, greyscale labyrinth of the Desolate.

The first entry, The Forever Tower, follows an unnamed wandered climbing an endless, colourless tower; the only world they have ever known. As they slowly ascend alongside the masses, they consider the nature of their world and look to the corridors as temptation beckons.

Progress on Rooms of the Desolate can be slow, particularly during university time, but even if a new entry hasn't appeared in a while, I'm still writing this!

My accounts

I have accounts on several prose writing websites, and a substack page called "The Sleepy Quill"; see its specific section for more information.

On Belletristica, I have both prose and some poetry collections. This was also the first prose writing website I joined, out of the ones I still have accounts for.

On RoyalRoad and Scribble Hub, I solely post prose. My RoyalRoad account came first, and Scribble Hub followed about two months later.

I my best to synchronise releases on all of these sites, but Belletristica doesn't have scheduling capabilities yet, so releases there are sometimes a bit later.

The Sleepy Quill

The Sleepy Quill is a substack newsletter/blog I've started to host both fiction and non-fiction writing. I created it because writing sites I'm on, such as Belletristica and RoyalRoad, aren't well-suited to standalone short stories or non-fiction posts.

Any short story collections or other serialisations will be posted on Belletristica, RoyalRoad and Scribble Hub as is already the case, but any short standalone stories or non-fiction will be posted at the Sleepy Quill.
